WNYC Premieres JEN CHAPIN’s New Video “Gospel” to Commemorate the Birthday of DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

JenChapinGospel

New York, NY — Singer-songwriter and food justice activist Jen Chapin honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and nonviolent social justice movements past and present, with a new video “Gospel,” beautifully created by NYC artists K8 Howley and Jak Ritger from Jen’s highly-praised recent release ‘Reckoning’, produced by five-time GRAMMY© Award winner Kevin Killen.
The video is exclusively premiered with an introduction by radio host John Schaefer at WNYC. Watch and read about video here.
“And like her father, the songwriter and activist Harry Chapin, Jen has found a way to use simple language to convey something of depth and complexity. So as the song ends, with a chorus gently repeating “It’s gonna take a long time, but we’re not going away,” it’s hard not to think of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s extraordinary statement of determination and hope: “The moral arc of the universe is long. But it bends towards justice.” John Schaefer, WNYC’s Soundcheck and New Sounds Radio Host

Hear! Hear!

If you grab a copy of NUVO Newsweekly this week you’ll see my 900-word interview with David Corley, a Hoosier songwriter whose work has gestated through three decades of musical, cultural and personal exploration. The truth, however, is much more interesting, as is every song on the album. “Pink clouds, the sun comes like a rocket up to the edge of the horizon,” he sings at the album’s start, echoing the arrival of this music itself, a raw, beautiful example of how influential music can be when given the time to open up and develop. Echoing Swordfishtrombone-era Tom Waits and more modern acoustic folk from the likes of Alexi Murdoch, Corley has crafted…
